Increase competitiveness in research funding

Objectives:

  1. To strengthen research proposal writing skills

  2. To engage with funding bodies and collaborative networks

Description of work

Task 6.1. To strengthen research proposal writing skill, UC, iMM and MU will leverage the expertise of their Grant Offices to organized a hybrid, 3-days training and support course for TRIAD team members in writing competitive EU funding proposals. The course will troubleshoot unsuccessful attempts and highlight effective grant proposals as well as discuss proposal management, including budget planning and administrative requirements. The TRIAD research teams will also pair early-stage researchers with experienced mentors who have a successful track record in securing research funding. Mentors can provide personalized feedback on draft proposals, help identify strengths and weaknesses, and offer guidance on how to improve the overall competitiveness of the proposal. The ERDF beneficiaries within the TRIAD project have already shown a commitment to research excellence, which is evident by their strong publication records in high-impact journals. The TRIAD teams will need to further focus on conducting high-quality research that addresses significant scientific challenges and invest in cutting-edge technologies, and collaborations to bolster their research capabilities and attract funding and top talent. To strengthen the research proposals the Garinis, Azzalin and Krejčí groups will also consider assembling teams with diverse expertise to strengthen research proposals. Having experts from multiple disciplines enhances the labs' capability to address complex research questions comprehensively. The international advisory board of TRIAD will regularly evaluate the labs' research outputs, funding success rates, and areas for improvement. TRIAD will utilize this feedback to refine research strategies, enhance proposal writing skills, and address any identified weaknesses.

Task 6.2. To engage with NCPs, funding bodies and collaborative networks, TRIAD will build relationships with NCPs, funding agencies and program officers. ERDF beneficiaries will actively seek feedback on unsuccessful proposals and refine grant planning, aiming to enhance future success. The Garinis, Azzalin, and Krejčí labs will engage in networking at conferences, workshops, and events to share research findings and highlight societal impact. They will also showcase prior ERDF-funded successes to bolster credibility in new applications. Collaborative projects with renowned researchers and institutions will enhance competitiveness. TRIAD will actively participate in European research networks and funding initiatives, such as Horizon Europe, to access funding opportunities and expand collaborations. Additionally, diversifying funding sources through applications to various European and international programs will ensure financial stability and demonstrate funding attractiveness.
